Five Languages and One Headache

After a long days work doing site surveys and sitreps in the town of Cap Haitien is was time to have a nice leisurely dinner at our hotel overlooking the water. Cap Haitien is a bustling place that's hard to navigate without a huge degree of patience. Our Haitian driver Eric has been great to us and took us on what should have been an 81 mile drive as the crow flies but took us five hours because of road conditions and got us there safely. We invited him to join us for dinner. This was a site... None of us spoke Creole except Eric our driver. Frederick and the owner spoke French. Frederick speaks German and mixes it with his French whenever he forgets which language he is speaking. Eric also knows a fare amount of Spanish as do I... and of course there is English. So five languages and one headache later we were finally able to order and enjoy a nice meal before retiring to bed to get up and do it all over again!
